Labyrinths at Soul of the Prairie

“One never knows at the beginning of a journey the treasures to be discovered”

Labyrinths are ancient tools of prayer, symbolic of a walker’s journey toward God. There is only one way in to the center, and one way out…and no opportunity to get lost!   The walk in toward the center is often considered a time of purging or “letting go” of things that separate the walker from God. At the center one may find some illumination about an issue or their relationship with God. And the walk out of the labyrinth is in union with God. Some also consider the time after the labyrinth walk a time of co-creation with God.

Once you decide to walk a labyrinth, your active mind can let go of the need to decide, to direct, to look ahead, and to forge a path. The path for your spiritual journey is there, already carved between the flowers and grasses of the prairie, already accompanied by the music of the birds.

With each step you are exactly where you are meant to be at that moment. With each step inward you grow closer to the Holy. With each step outward you grow closer to the world, your spirit renewed.

Your own experience will be unique to you. The ancient paths of the labyrinth nourished by the deep roots of the prairie will support you wherever you are in your own sacred journey.

Soul of the Prairie labyrinths are open to all by appointment.

The Prairie Labyrinth is a “Cretan” labyrinth mown into 3 acres of re-constructed Iowa prairie.   You may want to pick up a rock to focus your intentions on your inward walk and leave it as a symbol of your intent at the center altar rock.
